L. Martin Pavletich Studio - Cimarron, NM
The building which is home to the L. Martin Pavletich Studio is located in “New Town” Cimarron. It was purchased by the artist in 2004, with the vision of transforming it into a spacious studio. The building was constructed about 1915 and used for a variety of businesses. Originally it served as a meat market, and in the 1950’s and 60’s was home to a cattle chute manufacturing operation. In the 1970’s, butcher block furniture was assembled within its walls, and the building ended its industrial life as a lumber yard and hardware store. It was in a state of disrepair, but Pavletich was not deterred because of the beautiful light that radiated through the large, north-facing windows.
Following a painstaking year-and-a-half restoration, the space was converted into what many people say “is one of the nicest studios they’ve seen”. The building size and layout made it a perfect candidate for use as an artist’s studio/gallery. The studio area, approximately 1000 square feet on the east side of the structure, was the focus of most of the revitalization. Radiant floor heat was installed and reproduction, stamped-tin panels adorn the previously bare, 16-foot high ceilings. The west half of the building was reconfigured years earlier and the rooms created were perfect for an office and framing room. The building size of nearly 3500 sq. ft. yields ample storage and other work areas in the unfinished portion. Not only did the renovation preserve some of the history of Cimarron, but it provided a space that nurtures the artist’s creative time and allows customers a unique and casual venue in which to view his work.

Driving Directions:
To get to my studio from Highway 64: Turn north on Washington Ave. which is due east of the Village Hall complex. Go one block to the stop sign and turn right or east. This is 9th Street. One-half block on the right is my studio- 428 East 9th.
