Stonedreamer Studio - Las Vegas, NM

Stonedreamer Hunters - Vase

A charming restored adobe houses Marisol Macias' Stonedreamer Studio. Its softly curved whitewashed walls, natural stone floor and beamed ceiling provide a perfect backdrop to her colorful artwork. Marisol's first encounter with the land and peoples of New Mexico some 25 years ago, was an intensely transformative experience, leading to her move from Florida to Las Vegas in 2005.

Her photography offers sensuous and mystical interpretations of the Southwest landscape and native architecture. She uses color, abstraction and digital alteration to intensify the emotional impact of her images. Marisol's work reveals a fascination with texture, focusing on the organic qualities of the landscape and of traditional building materials in interaction with time, the elements and light.

An avid traveler, Marisol's documentary travel photography features the indigenous cultures, religious monuments and power sites of the Americas and Asia, and reflect her academic training in history, anthropology and oriental art.

Marisol also works in clay and paper. Her most recent work with paper collage vessels combines her photographic images, hand-made papers, acrylic paints and varnish over papier maché. These unique vessels are inspired by the colors and textures of the desert Southwest, and function as three-dimensional collages that transform traditional vessel shapes into receptacles for a vision . . .
